Mark and Jacob from Appliance Repair American. A real field visit from the Tech Life series.

Two gas dryers stopped heating at the same time. The home had run out of gas. After the supply was restored, this LG dryer still needed attention. Jacob found a broken hot-surface igniter.

Field notes: gas supply and a broken igniter

  1. Review why both gas dryers stopped heating.

Both dryers had stopped heating. That shared detail mattered before the team looked at the fault in this machine.

  2. Identify the broken hot-surface igniter.

Jacob explains that the LG dryer’s hot-surface igniter was broken. Restoring the gas supply had not fixed that part.

  3. Record the part needed for the return.

The visit ends with a diagnosis and a part needed for the repair. Clear job notes help the next visit start in the right place.

Today another dollar man. Now we have an LG gas dryer. Customer complaint is it's not heating. We're gonna get on that, get a diagnostic, show you some of that. Get out and get it. Get it. Yeah, that's what she said it wasn't heating, it's just blowing cooler. It really isn't heating up. No, I still think it might just be air, but it stops trying to pull gas if it doesn't ignite. So it's not like running it will pull the air out.

You have to start to stop, start and stop.

A lot of compensation for the moisture inside of here. We finished that diagnostic for that LG gas dryer. What'd you find there, Jake? It had a bad heating element, which that's not too uncommon. But the original symptom, the lady had two gas dryers that weren't working. They were both working at the same time. They both failed. They actually ran out of gas in their tank. But I guess this dryer, while they were trying to run it without gas, it kept trying to sense for the ignition.

And it probably overused the heating element, and it was old, and it was bright.

It broke in half, so it needs a new heating element. By heating element, you mean the igniter, right? Yeah, the hot surface igniter. Okay, cool.
